Going to high school is stressful and practically a part-time job. And that does not include extracurricular activities. With a part-time job, you have no extra time, but you do have the money. High schoolers with part-time jobs are more responsible. They possess a work ethic, and they have a better idea of what they want to do with their lives. There are pros and cons to having a job.
The pros of having a job in high school are you get a feel of the work-life and understand what you would like to do in the future, whether you want a job or not, and what type of job you want. If you want to be a manager, it can help a lot with your future decision-making.
Another pro is you do not have to worry about money to buy something you want. Also, you can be more independent, meet new people and build new relationships. You get to expand your horizons and discover new things.
The cons of having a job in high school are, you cannot do any extracurricular activities. Well, you can, but it is a struggle to get free days off. It is harder to manage your time with the little time you have. First, you have to go to school. Then you get home with a little bit of time before you have to go to work, and after that, you come back home and sleep.
Only to do it again the next day.
You have no time for friends unless you have weekends off or an arranged schedule which is unlikely when working this young. You are also underpaid, and many high schoolers are working at fast-food chains where they overwork and underpay their employees.
Having a job helps in the future to find what you like and what you want to do with your life. There are pros and cons to having a job and not having one. It mostly comes down to whether or not the person wants it or can get one. But in a world where money is a necessity, for many students, there isn’t much of a choice.
