Did you know Herriman High does a fall musical every year. This year’s musical is about Cinderella. The story of Cinderella concerns a young woman forced into a life of servitude and self-centered stepsisters, who dreams of a better life. With the help of her fairy godmother, Cinderella is transformed into a princess and finds her prince. When asked about the musical this year Mrs. Kaycee DeYoung said “This year’s Rodgers & Hammerstein’s Cinderella musical is an updated version so it’s got a lot of your favorite song from the 1950s Julie Andrews, but there are some new songs, there’s some new characters, it’s really really, it’s just super fun, it’s an awesome one.” Herriman was having auditions on September 3rd – 4th and the callbacks are the 5th and the cast list will be out the 6th. The musical will be performed in the auditorium in November on 20th, 21st, and 23rd at 7pm. Tickets for Cinderella will be on sale next month. “To be Announced.”
If you ever want to audition for future plays or musicals keep updated with Herriman High Schools Drama instagram or website, which for the instagram is ‘@herrimandrama’ and for the website it is ‘herrimantheater.com’. For any future production keep a lookout on those sites or come to the mini theater closest to the lunchroom, the room number is 1114. If you ever have any questions about future productions come drop by and see Mrs. DeYoung.
Furthermore as the musical production starts to get into rehearsal processes it is always a little different depending on the shows. “For musicals we usually start off by learning the music, learning all the songs, learning your parts,” said Mrs. Kaycee DeYoung. Once everyone has learned their parts and songs they go into this process called blocking, blocking is your movement on stage. They block their scenes so they know where to go and where to be on the stage and where to enter and exit the stage. Along with blocking they have choreography for dances. ‘Why is Cinderella so bad at soccer? … she keeps running away from the ball.’ Have you ever noticed the background of a musical and the prop work that was done, oftentimes we can forget how long making props take and the skill people have for all that. I just want to give a big CONGRATULATIONS to the people who made the musical team and cast. Can’t wait to see your production and all the lovely work you put into it.
