Our custodian, Shawn Diamond, is one of Herriman High’s biggest role models. Shawn always carries a positive attitude with him and displays integrity to our students and staff with a contagious smile and a driven mindset. You can find him at every school event cheering on our amazing students.
Shawn cares deeply about the students and administration in our school and easily becomes a friend to everyone. “It’s all about the kids,” says Shawn, “The kids are the best part of the job. I do whatever I can to support them.” You will never find Shawn absent at an event; he makes time for everyone and always puts the students first. Shawn continues, “I’ve tried to be one reason someone smiles today. If I could be one reason somebody comes to work or school the next day… that’s what I’m all about.” He has the biggest heart for the school and cares for both the teachers and students.
Maintaining our school is not the only thing Shawn does; he also works at Walmart on the weekends. He has been working at Walmart for 17 years, since his senior year of high school. He enjoys busy work and loves his co-workers. Shawn graduated from Copper Hills High School in 2007. He enjoyed his high school years and has said that he has had great teachers, staff, and students. Shawn’s favorite sport is soccer, which has been his most favorite since he was a kid. His favorite drink is Dr. Pepper. “That’s breakfast for champions right there,” says Shawn. You can almost always find him sipping on a Dr. Pepper.
Many teachers and students at Herriman High can say Shawn has had a positive impact on their everyday lives. “Shawn is the backbone of Herriman High,” says Erin Day, a language arts teacher. He is willing to do anything for anyone. Shawn is known to be incredibly involved in the students’ events. He dresses up in a suit and tie for home games and even rides the bus to away games.
From bringing a math class ice cream sandwiches to cleaning teachers’ microwaves, he is one of a kind. Everyone can say Shawn has made a positive impact on their everyday school lives. The students and staff are so grateful to have such an amazing person as Shawn in our school. If you want to make his day, Dr. Pepper is his jam.
