An Update from the Telegraph: How We’re Persevering Through a Pandemic

March 24, 2020

HERRIMAN— In a time where uncertainty is festering and fears are evident, quick and up-to-date information is crucial. The staff at the Herriman Telegraph are ready and prepared to be one of your most reliable news sources during the online school break. Here are a few ways we’re staying united to keep the school body connected.

  • Breaking News

One of our writers, Gracie Leiter, was on top of Magna earthquake coverage for our team immediately after the 5.7 quake rocked the valley. Within an hour, our staff had worked together to get that information edited and then published to inform Herriman’s student body.

As more updates inevitably surface about the current status of our school, state, country and even world, the Telegraph staff will strive to make relevant information available to you as quickly as possible – without compromising the quality of our writing.

  • Behind the Scenes

Zoom is our team’s new best friend; our staff is holding weekly meetings via the video conference platform, maintaining our purpose as the (now virtual) voice of Herriman High. With these meetings, we are in constant communication with each other on what we want our coverage to look like. Aside from that, we share ideas, plans and words with each other almost daily through email and GroupMe, utilizing technology to strengthen our team’s connections with each other.

A newspaper staff, and any team, is nothing without unity, and that is the word we are keeping at the very top of our priorities.

  • Plans for the Future

Unfortunately, another printed issue is no longer in our future for the 2019-2020 school year. The prints of our quarter three-issue remain in dozens of untouched piles at the school; For now, we don’t want to plan on another due to the lack of a reliable date for the end of the pandemic madness.

What we do have is the opportunity to expand our online platform, herrimantelegraph.org. We’ll be constantly uploading articles to our website and will remain dedicated to keeping the voice of The Telegraph alive, printed or posted.

  • Connection Equals Unity

Above all else, our goal as a staff is to continue – and strengthen – our connection with YOU, our readers, the student body of Herriman High.

We’re working to keep our Instagram, @thehhstelegraph, a thriving resource to ease your quarantine, online school and earthquake troubles. Whether it’s through Q&A’s, staff member highlights, playlists, articles, or anything else, we are online for the sole purpose of being here for you.

Stay with us, stay informed and stay safe, Mustangs.
