How do the emotions shown in Inside Out 2 realistically portray emotions that teenagers have? One of the most insightful and thought provoking Pixar movies, Inside Out 2 came out on July 14, 2024. The movie mainly portrayed the five main emotions Joy, Sadness, Anger, Disgust and Fear along with four new emotions Anxiety, Envy, Embarrassment and Ennui. It showed how more complex and developed emotions came into Riley, the main character’s life, once she became a teenager. This movie shows real life emotions that teenagers have and some of the mistakes and decisions they make because of these big emotions.
To start off, one of the new emotions is Envy. She is shown as Anxiety’s sidekick, following her around. She is also shown as being jealous of other people and the other emotions. Envy is an emotion that most people, especially teenagers experience often. At times, teenagers can become envious of others. These include celebrities, influencers, classmates, or even friends. With some of the social pressures seen in social media, teenagers can often feel envious of what other people have or what other people are doing. This includes physical products such as clothes or shoes, unrealistic beauty standards, and even friends.
Embarrassment is also one of the new emotions in this movie. He is an awkward emotion who gets embarrassed from the smallest things, even just a tricky handshake. Embarrassment is a common emotion for teenagers. They can get embarrassed from the smallest things. Some effects of embarrassment is that it can lead to negative self evaluation and a loss of public self esteem.
One of the biggest emotions in the movie is Anxiety. Anxiety is portrayed as a crazy control freak who takes control of the system and overrides the rest of the emotions. Anxiety is a very real emotion that everyone experiences, especially teenagers. The problem begins, when, like the movie, Anxiety takes over. When, in the movie, she takes over, everything starts to fall apart and Riley begins to doubt herself and make questionable decisions. This, unfortunately translates to real life because, according to Mission Harbor Behavioral Health, up to 15% of all teenagers experience symptoms of clinical anxiety disorders by the time they are 18. Anxiety can take over lives, just like it did to Riley in the movie. It is important to get proper treatment if someone has anxiety, as it can lead to worse health problems such as depression, heart problems, and diabetes. Some resources for severe anxiety are counsling, therapy, mindfulness (including exercise or meditation), and in some cases, medication. Inside Out 2 does a good job in portraying what it’s like to have anxiety as a teenager. It shows that even though it is an essential human emotion, it can cause chaos and harm when it begins to control your life. In Inside Out 2, the Anxiety takes Rileys sense of self and destroys it, giving Riley a negative view of herself. She tries to overrule all of the other emotions and control Riley’s mind. This is what anxiety does to some teenagers. It tries to overwhelm them and take control of their lives and minds. All of these new emotions shown in Inside Out 2 are real emotions that affect everyone, especially teenagers. This movie shows what goes through teenagers minds and can be relatable for them.
