Unrealistic Expectations

Unrealistic Expectations

The definition of an influence is one’s effect or impact on another person. Whether you like it or not, everything around you has an influence on you and the decisions you make. This may include the people around you, social media, television, and your environment. A lot of people feel that there are standards they need to meet to fulfill their potential, this is not true. This article is going to talk about ways to feel positively about yourself and how to separate yourself from unrealistic expectations you feel you must meet.

Social media is commonly associated with a negative self-image. It may be the same with people around you.  We see other people and our brains automatically think about what they may have and we might not. Instead of admiring other people, it’s common we pick out our own flaws and grow to dislike ourselves for them.  “Appearance comparisons play a huge role between social media and body image.” These influences may also make you feel you need to reach unnecessary standards or that you may not be “good enough”, which is not true.

Reconsider your expectations,  a very valuable skill to have for the future is how to separate yourself from unrealistic expectations. To be able to do this you have to understand your own limits and what you are capable of achieving. Everyone is different and takes their own path to success. Take time to think about what you do and do not have control over. There are some things that are not simply in reach or are limited to you. Keep a flexible mindset. Of course, you should reach for your goals but don’t be hard on yourself if your journey does not go as planned.

Acknowledge the things you have succeeded in and are capable of. Appreciate how far you’ve come and all you have accomplished. Confidence is the key to success. If you are believing in yourself and strive to better yourself you are on the path to success.
