Battle of the Bands is one of the most interesting and fun events at the school, especially if you are very into music. This is an event where multiple groups do a performance singing while also playing an instrument. Many students who competed this year felt that it was a success and better for the most part. This year the Herriman High School Battle of the Bands event had a few differences compared to last year.
First off, there were many inspirations some students had that made them want to compete in Battle of the Bands. Jonah Blamey, who performed metal rock this year claimed that his main inspiration was his love for music. “My whole life revolves around music and I don’t know what I would do without it,” Jonah said. Many people, especially in this age group, would agree that music is one of the most important things to strive for. Many of the students who competed this year claimed that their love for music and playing instruments was their inspiration for joining this competition in the first place. Music is a great way for people to express themselves and come together, and many would agree that Battle of the Bands does just that.
Was it better this year than last year? According to many students who competed, yes. This year’s Battle of Bands stood out due to the level of preparation shown by the performers. Many of the bands spent weeks organizing their sets, practicing, and working on stage presence. Jonah said, “I believe that it went better this year because we did better at preparing and getting ready to compete.”
Although there were fewer bands that performed this year, the quality of performances still remained high. Each band brought something unique to the stage, whether it was strong vocals, music, or the kind of instruments they played. The smaller number of bands gave each group more time to perform and connect with the audience. Some competitors felt that the small number of bands was noticeable but did not take away from the experience. One student explained, “I felt that it was weird this year because there were less bands. But there was more talent this year and most of us won.” The band Dionna won the battle and will be competing at state.
There were some changes this year with the Battle of Bands but overall it seems that this year’s Battle of Bands is better than last year’s and many people are impressed. Awards were given to multiple bands, recognizing the different strengths many of these students had such as performance, originality, and musicianship. Overall, the Battle of Bands was a success this year. All of the strong preparation, talent, and positive energy made the event memorable for the audience and participants. Many students are already looking forward to next year’s competition in hopes of the success and hard work improving even more.
