Herriman Hearts of Gold grants the wishes of three individuals

One of the most exciting days of the school year is the Opening Heart’s of Gold assembly. Especially because this is when the student body finds out what the charity we will be supporting. Featured in this year’s assembly were Dance Company, Ballroom Team, and Musical Dance Theater. The students heard from our service officers, and the families who will benefit from Hearts of Gold. This year Hearts of Gold benefits are going to three Make-A-Wish families. Hailee Workman is one of our very own Herriman high school seniors. Workman was referred to the Make-a-Wish program by her pediatrician last summer, because she has a progressive muscle disorder. Her treatment includes physical therapy and many medical treatments. “I was surprised to be selected, because I barely made the age cut off… Being selected was amazing because something was finally going right, after having so much negativity in my life.” As a Wish kid Workman has loved working with Hearts of Gold and has really enjoyed teaching people about Muscular Dystrophy. “I loved sharing my story in the opening assembly because student see me missing school and walking differently, but until the assembly they didn’t really know what was going on.” Her wish is to either visit her best friend in London or to get a professional grade camera for her photography. Kaylee Satterfield is in the fifth grade. She has been diagnosed with Cystic Fibrosis and suffers from severe digestive and pancreatic pain. No matter what pain she is in Satterfield is an amazing basketball player, and loves animals. She wants to be a veterinarian when she grows up. Satterfield wishes to go to Disney World and to meet the Dolphins from “Dolphin Tale”, Winter and Hope. Ashton Sorensen is in the sixth grade, and he has been diagnosed with Hematologic disorder which requires blood transfusions, pain medication, and a lot of hospital visits. He loves sports, especially football and his wish is to meet his favorite football team, the Seattle Sea hawks, and his favorite player: Richard Sherman. Herriman high school is excited to support these families, through Hearts of Gold. And to welcome them into our Mustang family. We love you Hailee, Kaylee, and Ashton!
