Food Truck Craze

Food trucks have recently become a massive craze in the Salt Lake area, and really, it’s no wonder. The thought of a mobile restaurant is pretty cool, and the experience is a lot more colorful than just going through a drive-through or sitting down at a restaurant. There’s a novelty in having to track down the truck and then sitting with friends in a park to enjoy it, or even altogether with the community.

While food trucks have been around for a good deal of time, they used to be rather inaccessible. It was hard to track them down with only scarce amounts of information from the internet and locals who knew where to find it on occasion.

However, with the growth of social media such as Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, it’s become massively easier to get to them. Trucks are constantly streaming information on where they are and where they will be. Many trucks, such as Waffle Love, even have their own website.

As the Food Truck Craze has grown, app developers have also jumped on the bandwagon. Apps for both Android and iPhones have been developed to locate food trucks. A local favorite is called NomNom Finder, and allows you to filter trucks so you can find results near you.

While trucks in Utah aren’t quite as common as they are in Portland, Oregon, they have become popular around the area. Two trucks that tend to frequent the Herriman area include Waffle Love and the Matterhorn, the first of which sells gourmet liege waffles, the latter selling gourmet French toast.

There are also food truck gatherings here and there. By far the most popular one to go to is the Provo Food Truck Roundup, which takes place every Thursday in Provo on 560 South and 100 West in front of the Startup Building, which usually hosts about 20 trucks from 5 to 9 PM.

Take some friends with you and go enjoy and support Utah’s latest food trend!
