NCAA Playoffs

College football has kept the same traditional format for the past 100 years. In 2014, the decision was made to implement a playoff structure.

Many were curious as to how the playoffs would work in NCAA football. Players in the 2014-2015 season of NCAA football are the pioneers of what could eventually become the norm.

NCAA football can be controversial because the team rankings are based on the opinions of a committee. A playoff scenario helps solve this problem as the winning team which is more likely the better team, advances.

Executives are racking their brains to discover a way to make college football fair for all teams. Some argue that it is nearly impossible due to the mass amount of teams and their wide range of skill level.

The first bracket featured Alabama, Oregon, Florida State, and Ohio State. These teams were ranked 1-4 in order with Alabama at No.1 and Ohio State being No.4.

The Oregon Ducks and Ohio State Buckeyes were matched against one another in the first ever College Football Playoff National Championship.

Ohio State came out on the winning side of a 42-20 point game against the Oregon Ducks. The Buckeyes previously had to beat the No.1 team in the nation, Alabama, in the semifinals to get to the championship.

Implementing a single elimination four team playoff bracket has added excitement to the sport. It keeps the original weekly ranking system while throwing in a twist that better rewards the best team in the nation.
