March Madness

On Sunday March 15, teams across the nation were selected to play in the NCAA national tournament, for a chance to claim the title of national champion.

Big teams such as Kentucky, Duke, Wisconsin, and Villanova walked out with the number one seed overall.

The tournament started on Tuesday the 17th with the first four games being played

in Dayton Ohio. These eight teams played head to head to claim a spot in the round of 64.

In the round of 64, teams would face off looking to advance. Some big upsets included number three Baylor losing to number 14 Georgia St, number three Iowa St. losing to number 14 UAB. According to ESPN only one perfect bracket remained after the round of 64, out of the 11.57 Million brackets filled out.

In the round of 32 a few more unpredictable upsets would befall the world of college basketball. Wichita State, a team that went undefeated last season would have a fighting chance this year after taking down highly favored Kansas. The first number one seed would also get eliminated this round as Villanova would lose to number eight N.C. St. Number seven seed Michigan St. would also make a run and take down the number two Virginia.

The next round would consist of 16 teams popularly known as the sweet sixteen. This round proved tough for any underdog team to come up and prevail. With the only upset being Number seven Michigan St. taking down number three Oklahoma.

The elite eight would bring more heartbreak as some big name teams would go out in this round. Some of the teams that went out this round include Arizona, Notre Dame, Gonzaga, and Louisville.

The final four was held on April 4 as Kentucky would take on Wisconsin, and Duke would take on Michigan State, all looking to advance and play in the championship game.

Duke came out strong and were too much for Michigan St. to handle as they easily advance to the next round winning 81-61.

Wisconsin would have a harder time getting past as they would be playing the undefeated Kentucky Wildcats. Lead by senior Frank Kaminsky, the Wisconsin Badgers would take down the highly favored Wildcats 71-64.

The championship game would be held on April 6 with the Duke Blue Devils taking on the Wisconsin Badgers for the title of national champion. Both teams came out with everything they had, but it was the Blue Devils that would come out victorious. This would be the fifth national championship Duke has won throughout their history as a team with the last one dating back to 2010.
