Being able to march formations on a football field and play amazing music in a synchronized fashion is something that takes a lot of work and practice.

Our Marching Mustangs have spent three hours after school three days a week, plus competitions every Saturday and occasionally on weekdays.

The band started their parade band season just a few weeks after school ended last summer. They marched in three parades around Utah, including Murray’s fourth of July parade.

At the end of summer band,  Shawn Mangum handed out the music for this year’s show; “Viva Mexico!”  Their music selections include Huapango, Danzon no. 2, and Conga Del Fuego Nuevo.

Throughout the season so far, these musicians have placed third in two competitions and fourth in the most recent one practice.

The number of people in the marching band has increased by 20 or so people this year, and despite the fact that they’re smaller than most bands, they still make an impact when they perform.

Judges have commented on the quality of the drumline, the woodwinds and the color guard, saying that the music is amazing, as well as the movements.

On the first and second of November, the band traveled to St. George and Las Vegas to compete with multiple bands from different states, earning some of their highest scores and ratings.
