Herriman High School has gotten a prestigious national reputation when it comes to Cross Country and Track. For the past three years Herriman Boys Cross Country has had a tremendous rise. Since the 2022-2023 season, Herriman high has helped develop dedicated and talented athletes, who have been proven competitive at the National level. This year (2025) in June Herriman attended the New Balance Nationals in Pennsylvania. The meet was a 4x800m relay and Herriman set fire to the track with their generational team, led by talented runners.
Together the team achieved a historic All time record of 7:26.12, beating the previous record of 7:28.75 held by Long Beach Poly since 2011. With all runners getting amazing run times to the millisecond, this was a truly deserved record and national title for the team.
Not only has the boys team had a tremendous rise to the top, but the Herriman Girls Cross Country and Track teams have had remarkable success in their recent seasons.
Herriman girls cross country topped the national rankings coming into the top 25 in the 2024 season. They had a great season campaign in 2024 and achieved a 3rd place finish in the 6A state meet.
The girls Track team also rose to new heights in recent years. In May of 2024 Herriman were Regional champions with both the varsity and JV teams topping the league. Earlier this year in April (2025) Track placed 2nd in the prestigious Mt. SAC relays in California, and were ranked 4th in the nation. The Herriman girls cross country and Track teams truly have very talented athletes, and have become favorites to win state and even national titles in upcoming seasons.
Herriman Has become a National Powerhouse in Cross Country and Track, but how did this rise occur? Of course there is a lot of credit due to the dedicated athletes and coaching staff that spend hours training and improving their craft, but something that has set Herriman apart from other skilled schools is their “Pack Mentality” or team camaraderie. Herriman boys cross country coach Douglas Soles described in his book “ How to build a championship level distance runner” that he emphasizes creating a sense of community and running culture among athletes. Herriman’s unitedness has been notable as in nearly every picture of the team you can see them huddling together and always appearing confident when around each other. Having confidence in each other can definitely be a driving force to help lift some pressure off the runner’s shoulders in these big races. This method has been proven effective given Herriman’s prestigious record.
