Sabrina Carpenter released her seventh studio album on Aug. 27, 2025, titled “Man’s Best Friend.” This album is awful and it boasts the opposite of how Carpenter claims to be. “Man’s Best Friend” contains 12 whole songs in which every song mentions something explicit, whether it be through a double entendre, metaphor, or just blatantly saying it outright. Carpenter presents herself as “for the girls”, meaning that she builds women up. This album seemingly does the exact opposite because of the explicit content. For this reason the album isn’t impressive.
Another problem with this album is the age of many of her fans. Many of her fans are young girls who look up to her as an example and as an idol. “Man’s Best Friend” has explicit themes that truly shouldn’t be heard by young, growing ears. It’d be one thing if there were a few songs that didn’t have double meanings behind them or if there were some that didn’t swear, but no song in her album is clean. Not only are the songs inappropriate, they’re just downright bad songs. If they were actually fun to listen to then maybe, just maybe Carpenter could get away with all of the insane lyrics. Every song sounds the same. While listening to the album I almost didn’t know when one song ended and another started.
I talked to a few students at Herriman High to hear their thoughts on the album. “Is she selling her music or her body?” Emma Goldman, a Junior, asks. “Music should speak for itself, she shouldn’t have to objectify herself to sell her music.” Savanna Perry, a Senior, says it seems like Carpenter is normalizing the objectification of women. “Girls shouldn’t feel like they have to do that in order to get popular.” Perry emphasizes how Carpenter’s actions go against many of the things she stands for. Maya Aragon, a Senior, says Carpenter’s “target audience” is women, and she “shouldn’t have to sexualize herself” because of that. This statement makes the point: is Carpenter really marketing herself toward women, like many people think, or has it shifted to being targeted at men?
When songs constantly talk about inappropriate subjects it makes them less enjoyable to listen to. If her songs were more heartfelt they could connect with people and touch their hearts. The songs could be touching people, inspiring people, but the songs in Carpenter’s album are just making people’s jaw drop and eyebrows raise in pure shock. The songs on “Man’s Best Friend” are terrible and completely unlistenable, the album should’ve never been released.
