Herriman Swim Team Sets New Racing Records

Herriman High is amazing in many ways– academics, fundraising, and sports. It only makes sense that the Herriman High Swim team is incredible, and has dominated many races and records.
The varsity swim team consists of 10 boys and 10 girls who all exhibit dedication, excellence and passion for the sport that has consumed their lives.
“I’ve been swimming since I was 6, that’s when I had my first lesson. I’ve been on the high school team since I was a freshman,” said varsity swim team member, Courtney Scott (‘16).
These athletes lives revolve around swimming, and it’s a sport they put a lot of time and effort into.
“We practice Monday through Friday from 5:15 a.m. to 6:45 a.m, and Monday through
Thursday is weightlifting from 3 to 4 after school,” Scott said.
It’s a lot of hard work to achieve goals in swimming, but with the determination and positive attitude, these swimmers can accomplish anything.
“The best part of swimming is when I’m done with practice,” varsity swimmer Keira Dailey (‘16) said.
Dailey holds many records in the 100 freestyle, 200 freestyle relay, and the 400 freestyle relay.
“One of the best parts is looking up at the board and seeing everything you’ve done, and knowing you can accomplish that,” Dailey said.
Working hard in swimming teaches athletes many lifelong lessons they can apply in everyday activities.
“The work and energy that you put into [swimming] teaches you to work harder and also good work ethic,” Dailey said.
The swim team has been working hard for the whole season, and will be taking on region in February.
