Sterling Scholars rise to the top

The Sterling Scholar Program is a program developed by The Deseret News and KSL Broadcast group that focuses on recognizing high school seniors with outstanding scholastic achievement and community contribution by awarding scholarships and cash prizes for the winners. The process of applying includes submitting an application and an interview (in most cases), then the winners are selected. In their application, these students were graded on 25 percent their overall grades, ACT, national testing, 25 percent  performance in category, 25 percent how they use their leadership skills, and 25 percent  citizenship in the community. Megan Edwards (‘17), the winner of the Science Category, shared her thoughts about the whole process. “Sterling Scholar has given me the chance to really show how much I love science. It’s more than a school subject; to me, it’s a passion. You want to put your best foot forward, but you don’t want to be cocky.” Rachel Hale (‘17), the winner of the World Languages Category, shared how this experience has helped her “Sterling scholar pushed me to record my experiences through high school. It helped me reflect on what I’ve done and how far I’ve come”#Marin Murdock (‘17), the winner of the Business and Marketing Category, shared about the community within the program. “My experience as a sterling scholar has already opened up several opportunities for my future career. Having the experience of putting together a professional portfolio is something that will be extremely beneficial as I go to apply for jobs and college programs.  The camaraderie amongst the scholars is undeniable, and I’m excited to continue to work alongside all of them during the coming year.” The student winners and runner-ups at our school are excellent and deserve recognition for their achievements and hard work.
